This year’s Advent appeal at Holy Cross Lutheran Church will support the USA Warriors Ice Hockey program which teaches our wounded warriors how to play Ice Hockey. It promotes not just their physical well being but also their emotional healing. One of our Confirmands, whose Dad is active in the program suggested it and it is most worthy of our time and support.
To offer some insight into the organization we will quote their flyer which we have distributed with the appeal letter.
“Participation in the program is therapeutic for both visible injuries, such as amputations and disfigurements, and “invisible” injuries such as traumatic brain injuries, post traumatic stress disorder, and internal organ damage. The majority of the sled hockey team members are or were patients at Walter Reed National Military Medical Center in Bethesda , Maryland. USA Warriors operate monthly sled hockey clinics at which new patients can try out the game. Many of these patients decide to join our program. All equipment necessary for trying sled hockey is loaned at no cost to the players, and those choosing to continue with the team are given the equipment they were loaned”
We hope that you will consider donating to this cause. Please write “advent appeal” in the memo section of your check to ensure these funds are earmarked for USA Ice Warriors Project.
