No one can say the last two months have been uneventful at Holy Cross!
At our January 31st Annual Meeting, a new Council was elected, the Budget for 2016 was approved and the changes to the Bylaws were passed. On behalf of the Congregation, I would like to thank Robin Fatz and Nicole Lopez for their service to our church as Fellowship and Christian Education members on Council. We welcome Devin Gist to Council as the new Fellowship Chair. There were no nominations for Christian Education at the meeting but shortly after Judy Odam volunteered to take that position. This was our first opportunity to be able to vote via email rather than to call a special Council meeting or wait several weeks and it was most successful and efficient with Judy being appointed by Council as Chair of Christian Education. Suzanne Baggett will serve as Sunday School Superintendent and Jeanne Maysonett will assist Judy in her responsibilities.
On February 7th Pastor Jones received and accepted a call to serve as Pastor at Evangelical Lutheran Church in Frederick, MD. His last service at Holy Cross was February 21st. We thank him and Robin for their service to us and wish them many blessings as they go forward in this new path.
Clearly, at least to me, change is difficult and challenging, and yet it is an adventure as well. Working with Bishop Richard Graham, we are in the process of making the transition as smooth as possible. The Bishop is arranging for an Interim Pastor to serve us and in the meantime we will continue our church life as normally as possible. We have local Pastors on call for emergencies and Supply Pastors to fill in until an Interim is called by the Synod. Please do not hesitate to call me or Vice President Mike Berg in an emergency or if you have any concerns or questions.
At this moment I believe we as a church family are called to work together to be sure we move in the direction that God is calling us. I truly believe God is in control and will make things work to the good. Let us all please pray for wisdom and grace as we work through this change in our life at Holy Cross.
God’s peace be with all of us!
