Orpheus Jazz Band Performs Sunday, March 27 @7:00 PM

Holy Cross’ own Jim Houck (bassist), Band Leader of Orpheus Jazz Band, will perform at HCLC in the Fellowship Hall Sunday evening. After dinner come out to enjoy a mixture of jazz stylings by Orpheus Jazz band. Complimentary beverages, and desserts will be served. The show starts at 7:00 pm. You’ll have plenty of time afterwards to tuck the kids in for the night or yourselves. Admission is free!

Orpheus Jazz Band Members:

Steve Lovecchio (sax/clarinet/etc.), originally from Rochester, NY, received his Bachelor of Music Education and Master of Education at George Mason University. He has been teaching and performing in the Baltimore/DC/Northern Virginia area for the past 15 years. His performances have taken him all over the United States as well as the Caribbean and Mexico. He has studied with many jazz artists including Pete Christlieb, Jim Caroll, Mike Tomaro, Bob Florence, Jiggs Whigham, Steve Houghton, Rick Baptist, and Shelly Berg. Steve was fortunate to be a part of Chuck Magione’s “The Hat is Back” New York tour in 1994. In 1997, he was a part of the “All-American College Band” performing in Disneyland in Anaheim, CA. Locally, he has also studied with Dale Underwood (saxophone), Judy Lapple (Flute), and Sharon Bonneau (Clarinet), each were previously in the premier Washington, DC military bands. He currently teaches in Fairfax County Public Schools and the band leader of the “Doc Dikeman Big Band”.

Woody Hume (percussionist) has been playing professional drums and percussion for over 45 years. He graduated from the University of Southern Mississippi with a degree in music education. He spent several years managing Drums Unlimited, a professional percussion shop in Bethesda, MD. He is an active drummer and percussionist in the Washington, DC area performing the musical styles of jazz, contemporary Christian, country, and rock music.

Ray Mabalot (keyboard) was in the Air Force Band program for 21 years. He was stationed in Texas, Ca, Ilinois, Hawaii, Japan, and Virginia. He performed at the Omni Hotel in Newport News, VA, for seven years at the piano bar and played the Hampton Jazz Festival three times.

Jeff Wolf and Mary Shapiro (vocalist) sing and perform as well as manage concerts at Stillwaters Studios of Marshall Virginia.

Jim Houck (leader/bassist) – Originally from Baltimore, Maryland, has a distinguished musical career both performing and producing. He received the Who’s Who Among Young American Professionals award and has performed/toured with:
