Youth Fund Raiser: This is the last week to enjoy a dinner at The Tortilla Factory (648 Elden Street in Herndon) either Sunday or Monday (Labor Day). 10% of your bill will be donated to the Holy Cross Youth trip to New Orleans. Bring a flyer (that can be found in the Narthex and attached to this email), or a church bulletin and hand to the cashier when you pay your bill and 10% will go to the youth. The Third Annual Family Gatherings: This year’s Family Gatherings begin this weekend (9/3) and run through mid-October. Already over 90 of our members scheduled a Gathering and some of the hosts have reached their capacity. Please select the Gathering that best fits your schedule. Sign up in the Narthex or contact the host directly. See the attached updated schedule for hosts and locations.

First Sunday Food Drive – 9/4: Non-perishable food will be collected this Sunday for the LINK pantry. Email outreach@holycrosslutheranchurch.netif you have any questions. A few of the ESOL families are in great need. If you would like to donate tuna, spaghettios, tomatoes, cans of chili, green beans, it would be greatly appreciated. Fall Clean-Up Day – 9/10: We will be making some small repairs, replacing light bulbs, painting in some classrooms, and light yard work. No experience necessary. If you have your own tools, you’re welcome to bring them, however, we have paint supplies. Any questions can be directed to Peter Spohn,  or property@holycrosslutheranchurch.net.

Rally Day – 9/11 : : Fellowship, Food and Fun! Come and see how you can become involved in the many activities of Holy Cross Lutheran Church! Sunday School BEGINS at 9:45 am on Rally Day! A Day Of Remembrance – 9/11: Join us at 2 PM for a memorial service honoring first responders and featuring representatives from: Fairfax County Fire & Rescue, Fairfax County Police Department, Town of Herndon Police Department, and Loudoun County Fire & Rescue. First Communion Instruction on Sunday, 9/18: From 1-3pm and Sunday, September 25 th from 1-3pm. Communicants will receive communion during services on Sunday, October 2 nd . We Need YOU to Teach Sunday School!: Please volunteer your time to teach the children of Holy Cross this year–it is a wonderful and rewarding experience! Lessons are flexible and easy to plan–and everyone works with a co-teacher! It is a wonderful way to share God’s Word and love with our children. July 4^th Picnic – Monday: Join us at 4:00 for our annual 4th of July cookout! The church will provide hamburgers, hot dogs, and buns.  Bring a dish to share AND bring your chairs and blankets to watch the Fireworks at dusk, provided by the TOWN OF HERNDON!

Yard Sale – Monday July 4th – 8am – 1pm: It’s Summer Cleaning time, save those “treasures” and donate them to the church. Or you can have your own table. If you have any questions, please contact Jan Gregory, Sherry Yates,  or Robin Fatz.

Book Club: To help our youth raise funds for their New Orleans trip, the Book Club will meet at The Tortilla Factory (648 Elden Street in Herndon) the fourth Monday in July.

The Closet: Volunteers are needed – work 2 – 4 hours in the store, doing a variety of jobs from stocking shelves to bagging purchases. Contact Marilyn Bowers. 

HCLC Photo Directory – A church pictorial directory is being assembled.  If you have experience with digital photography or digital publishing and would like to help, it would be greatly appreciated.  Please contact Mike Rose. 

Backpack Collection: Watch for sales on backpacks for kindergarten thru high school.  We’ll be collecting them from July 24^th to August 7^th for Reston Interfaith’s “Back To School” drive.
