Holy Cross January Activities

First Sunday Food Drive – 1/1:Non-perishable food will be collected this Sunday for the Embry Rucker pantry. Some of the canned goods will be set aside for a few of the ESOL families who are in great need. For additional information contact outreach@holycrosslutheranchurch.net.

Blood Drive – 1/16: The Blood Drives are always from 4-8 pm on Monday evenings.  Please contact Kevin Hintzman if you are able to donate on January 16, and include your preferred time.
 
Youth Team Meeting – 1/19: For youth parents, confirmation parents and sponsors at 7:00pm for planning and strategy for 2012 and beyond. Contact Mike Makowski at youth@holycrosslutheranchurch.net if you have any questions 
 
Annual Meeting – 1/22: There will be one service on Sunday at 9, followed by our annual meeting at 10. Mark your calendar for the change in times.

Holy Cross Performing Artist Series – 1/29 at 3PM: Enjoy a performance by Ryan Hintzman, a member of Holy Cross and a phenomenal young musician, for an afternoon of cello music.  Admission is free.
 

Scout Sunday - 2/12: Scouts and Scouters: Please wear your uniforms to church on Scout Sunday as we celebrate 102 years of Scouting in America (102 years for Boy Scouts; 100 years of Girl Scouts; 82 years for Cub Scouts).  Eagle Scouts and Gold Award Scouts will be recognized at each service.

 Notary Public: Diane D’Amico, Holy Cross’ Administrator, recently received her license to be a Notary Public. She is available during office hours to notarize members documents.

Advent Services – Wednesdays: starting 11/30. Dinner at 6, Service at 7. Friends and family gather to celebrate the season.

First Sunday Lunch – 12/3: Join us for lunch after the late service this Sunday.
 
Parents Night Out – 12/10: Support our youth ELCA trip to New Orleans.  Would you like a few hours to do some holiday shopping.  Our youth and several adults will entertain your children with games, crafts, and a movie. Free-will donations will be accepted.  Check the bulletin for more details or contact youth@holycrosslutheranchurch.net  
 
Christmas concert 12/11: At HCLC at 3:00 PM on Sunday, December 11. There will be a dessert potluck reception to follow.  Bring your favorite dessert to share!  

Blue Christmas 12/18: A service of healing on Sunday at 4. A meaningful and quiet way to center our hearts during this busy time.

Decorating Party – 12/18: Sunday from 1-3:30. Lunch will be provided at noon. Help hang wreaths and garland, and set up the Christmas tree. All ages are welcome!
 
Wrap your gifts – 12/18: Bring your gifts on Sunday from 10:45-2:30. Our youth will wrap them while you worship and get other things done for the holidays.  All proceeds will go to support their ELCA trip to New Orleans.  For additional information contact youth@holycrosslutheranchurch.net  

Sunday School – 12/18: The high school  class will be providing the Christmas lesson and activities for all the children in Sunday School (PreK thru 6th graders) during the Sunday School hour from 9:45 to 10:45.  Fun for all–don’t miss the celebration and fun!

Christmas Eve Services – 12/24: At 6 (Family Worship Service), 8 and 10 (Candlelight Eucharist Service). Celebrate the birth of Christ with friends and family.
Christmas Day – 12/25: There will be NO Sunday services on Christmas Day.
 
New Years Day – 1/1: The Naming of Jesus Hymn Festival.  We will explore the names of Jesus through scripture and hymnody.
 
Tree of Joy: We reach out to families who need assistance.  Select an ornament from the tree in the Narthex, purchase and wrap the gift to be returned by Sunday 12/18. For additional information contact outreach@holycrosslutheranchurch.net.
  
Food Deliveries: Do you and your family have one hour per year to bring our 1stSunday food donations to either the LINK pantry or the Embry Rucker shelter in 2012? For additional information contact outreach@holycrosslutheranchurch.net.

Christmas Decorations: Would you like to dedicate the decorations in the sanctuary in honor or memory of a loved one? Check the bulletin for information.

Reston Community Orchestra – 11/20 @ 4:00 PM: The Reston Community Orchestra will present a concert sponsored by HCLC at the Reston Community Center – Hunterwoods. Christmas Book/CD Sale: On sale every Sunday in November. This year’s CD/Book project is based on our beloved Christmas carols. HOMEMADE PIES this Thanksgiving!!: WOW!! Pumpkin – cherry – apple – pecan – chocolate pecan. Support our youth as they continue to raise funds for their trip to the 2011 Lutheran Youth Gathering in New Orleans. Pies baked with love. Orders and payment will be taken on Sunday mornings before and after services from 10/30 thru 11/16. You may order with Pastor Johnson (associate@holycrosslutheranchurch.net ) during office hours. Pick up is on Sunday, November 20th at services.

 LEAVES For LAWS : (Loudoun Abused Women’s Shelter): Starting October 2nd there will be a small tree in the Narthex with leaves giving suggestions for gifts. A box will be in the Narthex under the cross for your gifts beginning October 2nd thru October 23rd.  Costume Party Saturday, October 29, 2011 from 6pm-7:30pm: For the entire family: come for some good, fall fun: bobbing for apples, cookie decorating, fall crafts, costume contest and parade, and games, games, games.  There will be a timed pumpkin carving contest for adults only (16 and older; younger with parental permission). The Third Annual Family Gatherings: This year’s Family Gatherings begin this weekend (9/3) and run through mid-October. Already over 90 of our members scheduled a Gathering and some of the hosts have reached their capacity. Please select the Gathering that best fits your schedule. First Sunday Lunch: No lunch this month since there’s a picnic on 7/4.

July 4th Picnic – Monday: Join us at 4:00 for our annual 4th of July cookout! The church will provide hamburgers, hot dogs, and buns.  Bring a dish to share AND bring your chairs and blankets to watch the Fireworks at dusk, provided by the TOWN OF HERNDON!

Yard Sale – Monday July 4th – 8am – 1pm: It’s Summer Cleaning time, save those “treasures” and donate them to the church. Or you can have your own table. If you have any questions, please contact Jan Gregory, Sherry Yates,  or Robin Fatz.
