Holy Cross April Activities

Holy Week Services:

  • Palm Sunday - 4/13 – 8:30 and 11:00
  • Maundy Thursday - 4/17 – 7:00 with foot washing & communion
  • Good Friday - 4/18 – 7:00
  • Easter Sunday – 4/20 – 8:30 and 11:00

Easter Morning Breakfast April 20 9:30-10:45: Tickets are $10 per person or $5 for 6-12 or max $30 per family of 4. Tickets will be on sale on 4/13 in the Narthex.  Proceeds will benefit the youth program at Holy Cross.

First Sunday Food Donations - April 2: For LINK Food Pantry. Soup and fruit are always needed.

1st  Sunday Lunch – April 6th after the late service: The theme is spring and the beginning of baseball season so the menu will be hotdogs, hamburgers, salads, baked beans, chips and dessert.  Donations can be made by using the direct link to the Perfect Potluck site http://www.PerfectPotluck.com/meals.php?t=TFUX4203  or by going to http://www.PerfectPotluck.com and locating the group meal by coordinator last name  Fatz  and Password: 2066.   Help is needed to cook the hamburgers and hotdogs, so please sign up for set up if you can help. Holy Cross Blood Drive April 21st: Happy Spring! Mark your calendars! Please help save lives at the next blood drive, which will take place on Monday, April 21, 2014, 4-8 pm at INOVA Blood Services near the Dulles Town Ctr (45745 Nokes Blvd, #160 in Sterling, VA  20166).  Appointments can be  as early as 12 noon if you need it. Please reserve your appointment by using the Doodle site (http://doodle.com/h94w79ivzerp2239) or contacting Jo Roe. Thanks so very much.  Every pint counts in maintaining a sufficient supply of donated blood for our area!

During the season of Lent, Holy Cross will host the following services and fellowship opportunities:

Wednesdays:

Lenten dinner at 6:00 p.m. followed by a Lenten worship service at 7:00 p.m.

Thursdays:

Lenten mid-week worship at 12:00 p.m. followed by a Lenten luncheon at 12:30 p.m.

Holy Cross March Activities

First Sunday Food Donations – March 2: For Embry Rucker Shelter. Large sized items are always welcomed.

Shrove Tuesday Pancake Dinner! -  March 4: Join our Youth Ministry at 6:00 p.m. Tickets are $10 per person or $30 for families of four or more persons.  Tickets will be on sale on March 2 between services and after the 11:00 service. Don’t miss the fun!

HCPAS – Faure Requiem: Sunday, March 16 at 6 PM: Presented by Choir and Chamber Orchestra.  This concert will be at Trinity Presbyterian Church in Herndon, VA.

2014 Lenten Appeal: Watch your mail for information. This year the beneficiary will be the Lamb Center, a Fairfax based organization “serving the poor and homeless, transforming their lives, and sharing God’s love.”

Deb Haynes, our seminarian last year, is a volunteer at the Center.

Holy Cross February Activities

First Sunday Food Donations – 2/1 – Top Food Needs: Yes, LINK has holes (large ones in some cases) on our pantry shelves. Here is a list of the top food needs – Soups (especially Chicken Noodle), Boxed Rice Products, Boxed Meal Helpers (like Hamburger Helper), Canned Fruit, Tomato Sauce, Chili, Canned Baked Beans, Boxes of Macaroni & Cheese, Spaghetti Sauce, Cake Mixes, Toilet Paper and Paper Towels.

Holy Cross December Activities

1st Sunday Food Drive – 12/1: Non-perishable food will be collected this Sunday for the LINK pantry. Grape jelly, chicken noodle soup (all sizes), vegetables and fruit are badly needed.

NO 1st Sunday Lunch: Due to Thanksgiving, there will NOT be a first Sunday lunch.

Advent Wednesday Services - 12/4, 12/11, 12/18 at 7pm: We will examine one character from the scriptures each service and their response to the good news.

Herndon Ecumenical Choir Christmas Concert – 12/8 at 7PM Herndon United Methodist Church to benefit the victims of Typhoon Haiyan in the Philippians.

Pax Dei Trio Christmas Concert – 12/15 at 3PM Holy Cross Lutheran Church

Christmas Eve Services 12/24: Family Worship Service at 6 PM, a festive celebration for children of all ages. Candlelight Eucharist at 8pm and 10pm, a traditional  service to celebrate the birth of Christ.

Boots and Jeans – 12/29: Church Project Day.  Wear your “boots and jeans” to church and we’ll start at 9:45 and continue after the second service to clean and fix our church home. For additional information contact Property Chair Michael Andress at michael.andress@lnf.com.

Holy Cross November Activities

Don’t forget to change your clocks before you go to bed Saturday night!  Turn them back one hour for an extra hour of sleep!  Wake refreshed and well rested for bold singing as we celebrate 50 years of worshipping together at Holy Cross!

Farewell and God’s-Speed Service for Pastor Johnson – 11/24: Hope you can join us to thank and celebrate her service at Holy Cross. At both services with a luncheon after the late service.

Pledge Cards: If you forgot to submit your pledge card last Sunday, don’t worry. We are still accepting them. Your pledge helps the congregation plan next year’s income forecast and enables the finance team to prepare the 2014 budget.

Tree of Joy – December: We reach out to the Holy Cross families who need assistance with gifts. Ornaments are hung on the Christmas tree in the Narthex. Pet Blessing Service – Sunday, October 6th - 1:00PM. Bring your pets to Holy Cross. Recognizing and celebrating the importance of all of God’s creatures, this annual service is held outside in our front yard.

50TH ANNIVERSARY FESTIVAL CHOIR: Like to sing, but can’t make a commitment to the weekly rehearsal schedule of the Sanctuary Choir?  Join the Festival Choir!  There are only three rehearsals, October 17, 24, and 29 at 8 PM.  The service is November 3 at 11 AM.  That is all you are committing to.  Let Jeremy Shoop know if you are interested or have questions.

50th ANNIVERSARY LUNCHEON!!! SPACE LIMITED – Tickets must be purchased by Friday, October 18th. We invite you to celebrate and worship with us as we give thanks for all that has taken place in and through Holy Cross and as we look confidently towards the future.  November 3, 2013 – Festive Worship with Holy Communion at 11:am followed by a luncheon and program:$50/adult; $25/children (5-15); free (under 5).

YOUTH FELLOWSHIP EVENT – OCTOBER 19TH!! 6-9pm – High school and middle school youth join us for a fun Fall tradition of wandering through the Corn Maize at Temple Hall Farm near Leesburg. Bring your friends and families! Wear warm clothes, bring a flashlight and $12 for admission plus a couple extra dollars for some hot chocolate. Please RSVP to Pastor Johnson no later than 5 pm on October 15th so we can be sure to have enough drivers.

First Communion Classes September 15th and 22nd

If you believe your child is ready to begin taking communion, we ask that you and your child attend this series of classes.  Pastor Johnson will be offering First Communion instruction on Sunday, September 15th from 1-3pm and Sunday, September 22nd from 1-3pm.  Communicants and their parents will attend these two classes and then receive communion during services on Sunday, October 6th.  If you have any questions about the class or whether your child is ready to receive communion, please contact Pastor Johnson at (703) 437-1883 or pastorsjohnson@gmail.com.

Fifth Annual Family Gatherings: There’s still time to sign up for one of the gatherings.  A great opportunity to get to know each other and learn about the joy of serving our Lord at Holy Cross.
